Rocking San Jose

There was a great image at Friday night's inaugural San Jose Rocks concert and hall of fame induction: Bands including the Count Five, Syndicate of Sound and Jefferson Starship performing beneath the 115-foot, lit-up replica of the old light tower at History Park.
Whether that image can keep the event, which honors music groups with origins in the South Bay, from being a one-hit wonder remains to be seen. The 400-seat event sold out early Friday, and organizers had to turn people away at the gate, but Dan Orloff, who put the show together with former Lou's Village co-owner Tom Muller and plenty of others, knows it'll be an uphill battle to hold a successful annual event the way the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame has for more than a decade.
I can hear the phones ringing already to the Doobie Brothers and Smash Mouth.
